Common MagicJack Questions
Can I just plug in the MagicJack in without a computer?
This would be the computer that the MagicJack would use, instead of your home computer or laptop. You just put this unit near your router and plug in an ethernet cable from this unit into your router. You can just leave this unit in a closet or where ever your router is located. After the initial configuration you don't need a keyboard, mouse or monitor for this unit.
Do I need a subscription from MagicJack for this device to work?
Yes, you need a valid registered MagicJack.
What does "pre-configured for MagicJack" mean?
The MagicJack software is already installed along with all the required support files that would not normally be available or installed on a Thin Client. It has already been completely configured and tested with a MagicJack, so when you receive it, you can just plug in your MagicJack.
Is the MagicJack service paid for with this item or do I have to set up a new service?
You can use it with a new or existing MagicJack service. The phone number is part of the MagicJack USB device. This item does not include a MagicJack device.
So what is this? I don't understand the technical terms, is this a computer too? I use MagicJack on the road?
This is a "Thin" Computer with enough power to run Windows XP, the MagicJack software, and do some lightweight web surfing. There is no hard disk drive, fans or any moving parts. It is called a solid state device. It also uses very little power (Less than 8 watts). Most people buy something like this to so their MagicJack system is not dependent on their main computer constantly running and connected to the internet. You can think of this as a "Phone System" computer specially configured for MagicJack.
Does this Thin Client include the XPe COA sticker and the install disc?
The COA sticker and serial # are included on all of the units. There is no install disc with a thin client, you would need to download the Flash disk image directly from the vendor.
Can these operate two MagicJacks?
Only one MagicJack can be used on any computer at a time. The MagicJack software does not allow for more than one instance.
Since MagicJack has regular updates does this Thin Client update like a standard computer?
Yes. It updates automatically and it is saved to the Flash Disk, which is also Write Protected from any other changes so it can never be infected with a virus or malware. These devices do not require any virus protection software.
Are these devices configured to auto-power on in case of power failure?
Yes, all the Thin Clients we sell are configured to Restart on an AC Power Failure.
What happens if/when the power fails and the thin-client boots?
MagicJack software automatically runs at startup. All the Thin Clients we sell are configured to restart on a Power Failure.
Would it be possible to upgrade/update MagicJack software on your thin client in case MagicJack releases it in the future?
Yes, you can easily update the MagicJack software that doesn't automatically update.
